Raising Funds to Save Little Lives

Red Nose Day returns on Thursday 26 August 2027. Held each year on the last Thursday in August, the annual fundraising campaign encourages Australians to get involved, have a little fun and support a cause that has helped save thousands of lives.

Red Nose is one of Australia's leading charities dedicated to preventing sudden infant death, reducing stillbirth and supporting families through the devastating loss of a pregnancy, baby or child. Formerly known as SIDS and Kids, the organisation continues to invest in research, education and compassionate support services across the country.

The charity was founded by Kaarene Fitzgerald following the death of her son, Glenn, from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Glenn was one of 18 Victorian babies who died from SIDS during a single month, inspiring a movement that has gone on to change the lives of countless Australian families.

Making a Lasting Difference

Through evidence-based Safe Sleeping education, Red Nose has helped reduce the rate of sudden unexpected infant deaths in Australia by around 80 per cent, saving an estimated 9,450 little lives.

The organisation has also invested more than $16.7 million into research focused on stillbirth and SIDS while providing free grief and loss support to hundreds of families through a 24-hour support line, online resources and professional counselling services.

Most states Red Nose Day is held on the Last Thursday in August each year except for South Australia where SIDS and Kids SA (Red Tree Foundation) holds Red Donut Day in the last week of June.
